Enjoy the nice weather with a patriotic cookout July 28, 2010 Written by: Bill Crotty Who doesn’t love having a cookout during the summer? There’s something special about getting a group of friends and family together and hanging out in the perfect weather while enjoying some delicious food and each other’s company. Although Independence Day has come and gone and July is reaching its end, there is never a bad time to celebrate your love for the United States of America. Combining the best qualities of the country and a fondness of grilled cuisine by hosting a fantastic patriotic-themed barbecue can be the perfect way to enjoy the warm temperature and long hours of daylight. You will definitely want to send out attractive invitations that get your guests excited to attend. A great way to do this is to make sure that your invites are red, white and blue. A classic variation on this would be to print announcements that resemble the stars and stripes. Delivering an invite such as this is sure to stir up some American pride. Just as was the case with the invitations, you’ll want to make sure you include the national colors any chance you get when it comes to decorating your party. A terrific place to start is on the deck. Lining the banister with patriotic deck fringe is a fine idea, as it is a classic piece of decor. Since you’ll likely be outside once it begins to get dark, think about hanging some patriotic lanterns to provide some lighting once the sunsets. An American flag banner would be a good addition to your shindig as well. You can include any saying on it, but “God bless America” or “Proud to be an American” are both good options. For a final decorative touch, you should consider placing a red, white and blue cover on your tables to transform them from drab seating areas to a piece of furniture reminiscent of Old Glory. You’ll absolutely need extra party supplies, too. Fun additions that you simply can’t do without are mini American flags. Whether they are arranged about your get-together or simply there for guests to wave fervently, everybody will love them. Wearing patriotic hats can be a fun endeavor, so why not have several red, white and blue top hats floating around along with a similarly colored cowboy hat? Providing appropriately colored glow sticks can also be a great source of amusement for your younger guests, especially once it gets darker. An interesting final touch would be to set up a life size cutout of Barack Obama addressing a crowd. Patriotic paper goods are a must too, especially since you will be hosting a cookout. Plate, napkins and cups that all are adorned with the stars and bars will be all you need to complete the theme. Whether Republican or Democrat, Independent or Green, there’s one thing everybody can agree on and it’s a love for America. Bringing people together is the perfect way to spend time with those that mean the most to you. Bill Crotty is a Birthday Party Decorations and Party Supplies news writer for Windy City Novelties.
